Blog Assignment #6 - Responding to a Piece of Literary Journalism

I decide to read and do a little summary of a story named A Felon’s Last Days of Freedom. This story is a very interesting article because it describes the last few days of “Green Eyes” and how his loves ones are much effected because Green eyes will be going to prison for 1-3 years. Green eyes is married to a woman named India. India has two daughters which are Cita and Ellissia. India has a job as an assistant in a hospital for the Anatomical Pathology Gross department. She has a good job and she loves what she does in her job. Cita who is India’s daughter is a graduate student who will be achieving her Master’s degree soon. Green Eyes has been in and out of jail since he was young. Green Eyes was in jail but he got out on bail and is now awaiting for the day they tell him how long he will be serving time. The sooner his court date approaches the more stressed out he gets because he does not know what will be happen, while he is serving time. Every morning until he goes to sleep this is what happens. He does not want to leave his family alone while he is serving time. I believe the author who wrote this article decided to write this article and most importantly an article about Green Eyes because this is something a lot of people around the world go through, especially what their family has to go through while their loved one is serving time. Maybe the author also has few family members or surrounds their selves with people that has to go through the same thing or has been through it already. The author is also trying to send out a message and show readers not only does the person who is serving time suffers but also their family does too. Ben Cleeton says “Inspired by her life experiences, she focused her senior project on how the prison industrial complex affects the makeup minority families and contributes to a breakdown of trust between minority women and men.” This is a strong quote because I believe a lot of people who live in a poverty neighborhood are curious about why people mind work like this. Especially young people’s mind. I believe it’s a good idea. Cleeton says, “I go to the supermarket and I spend at least 80 to 100 dollars a month on food for him.” This is a strong quote because this describes how much money you have to spend on your loved one who is incarcerated.
